            Characterization and Diagnosis

Household and market level surveys were carried out to characterize the dairy sub-sector in Kenya. The data collected were used to identify constraints, test hypotheses and  develop recommendations with partners. Conventional analyses were conducted with spatial analysis. Kiambu, Central and Western districts were covered by surveys. 

           Validation and Dissemination

The project worked together with farmers and small-scale market agents to test, adapt and validate technologies in the field. The project also disseminated extension materials to extension staff and farmers. 

SDP consulted with traders and dairy experts to establish specifications for the "ideal" milk container that met the traders' needs .

Extension and training materials on fodder preparation and milk preservation were developed in English, Kikuyu and Swahili.
